------ STOP ICE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW
We are going to the Mountain View City Council on June 23rd to demand Mountain View protects our community against ICE harassment. The Council will soon consider Agenda Item 4.15, which would prohibit the use of City property for ICE enforcement. Our two asks:
- Attend the City Council meeting and stand in support. We do not need a large number of speakers, and we do not want to take excessive time from an already packed agenda. What we do need is visible community support. When Item 4.15 comes up, please stand if asked by speakers to show support for the policy.
- Send an email to the City Council. Please urge the Council to: a) adopt the policy in Agenda Item 4.15 prohibiting the use of City property for ICE enforcement; and b) direct City Legal Counsel to file an amicus brief supporting the lawsuit brought by California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Santa Clara County Counsel Tony LoPresti seeking to block the development of an ICE detention facility near Gilroy.
The policy appears to have strong support, but community participation matters. Showing up and speaking out helps demonstrate that Mountain View residents want the City to stand against civil immigration enforcement on City property. ------ STAND UP FOR SCIENCE: SUBMIT A COMMENT TODAY
The proposed rule OMB-2026-0034, “Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance,” would allow scientific funding decisions to be driven by political priorities rather than scientific merit. If adopted, it could make federal support for research dependent on whether the results align with the administration’s preferences. A large number of public comments helps demonstrate public concern to the media, policymakers, and members of Congress, and can build momentum for legislative action.
Important: Your comment must be unique. Duplicate comments are often disregarded, but agencies are required to consider and respond to substantive individual comments. Consider sharing a personal example of how science has affected your life:
- Medical research that treated or prevented a disease affecting you or your family
- Vaccines that protected you or your children
- Technologies you rely on every day, from smartphones to airplanes
- Advances in surgery, cancer treatment, asthma care, or other medical fields
