As part of the post-Callais national day of action on Black voting rights, "All Roads Lead to the South", join me to watch the movie Selma after our monthly meeting tomorrow night, 6pm, Saturday May 16: https://www.mobilize.us/blackvotersmatter/event/955850/
We have started working more with our state and local elected officials, currently mostly on issues surrounding detention, ICE, and mass surveillance. There is a lot more action on this front lately and I need more of you to step up so we can make some real change happen. We have been and will be meeting with our Senators, Representatives, State Assemblymembers and Senators, City Council, and so on. If you want to help with research, be in the meetings, report to the group about various coalition actions, please let me know!
We'll be meeting very soon with Rep. Zoe Lofgren staff and Rep. Sam Liccardo staff regarding our letter demanding direct congressional oversight for the California City Detention Center. If you are a constituent of either (esp. Zoe) and want to shut down detention centers, please let me know ASAP.
Have you submitted a public comment to get ICE out of Dublin? I have done so on Wednesday. It's not just about Dublin or immorality of concentration camps: having an ICE facility nearby will increase ICE harassment in the entire Bay Area. Here's the info / toolkit. Deadline June 1st.
Multiple city-based groups are forming around the need to fight mass surveillance and Flock cameras. If you want to join such a group as part of our Blue Turn Indivisible efforts, let me know what city group you're interested in joining (usually it would be the one you live in :).)
Can someone go and take notes at this virtual event, May 21? California bills to get ICE Out Of Our Communities (this is an action from NDLON): https://www.mobilize.us/ndlon/event/952396/
There will be an Indivisibles-only private Q&A meeting with Tom Steyer on May 17th from 6:00 pm to 6:25 pm. If you want to be in it, let me know your Zoom name and email address.
